Marquis Walker

Marquis Walker is entering his 9th season as head women's soccer coach at Thomas More University during the 2026-27 academic year.  He has a 66-71-11 record at Thomas More.

In 2025, the Saints posted an overall record of 7-10-2 and a 6-6-2 mark against G-MAC opponents. Thomas More qualified for the G-MAC Tournament as the No. 6 seed and fell to Cedarville in the Quarterfinals. Andjela Popovic and Ivy Hoffman both earned G-MAC All-Conference Second Team while Olivia Mohs earned the G-MAC Elite 26 award. Six members of the team earned CSC Academic All-District honors. The Saints swept the October 14 G-MAC Athlete of the Week honors with Tea Pence earning Defensive player and Alexis Harden earning Offensive player. 

In the second season of NCAA DII competition, Thomas More went 6-8-3 overall and 3-8-3 in G-MAC play. Two Saints earned CSC Academic All-District honors and sophomore Andjela Popovic earned First Team All-Conference and USC NCAA DII Second Team All-Region honors.

During the Saints inaugural season in the Division II and the G-MAC, the team finished with an overall record of 8-9-2 and 7-6-1 in conference. Walker helped lead the Saints to their first G-MAC conference tournament quarterfinals. Andela Popovic was named First Team All-Conference and G-MAC Freshman of the Year. Sydney Rhodes and Amy Bos were named Second Team All-Conference. Olivia, Mohs, Molly Hayes, Lauren Welsh, and Emilia Geren were all named CSC Academic All-District.

In his fifth season (2022), Walker led the Saints to an overall record of 12-6-2 and a conference record of 5-5. The Saints made it to the semifinals of the Mid South Conference Tournament. Three Saints earned All-Mid South Conference honors under the direction of Walker.

In his fourth season (2021), Walker led the Saints to an overall record of 10-9 and a conference record of 5-6. The Saints made it to the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament.

Walker came to Thomas More after serving as an assistant women’s soccer coach at NCAA Division I member Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.  During the 2017 season, Canisius won the Big 4 Cup, by defeating the other three Division I teams (University of Buffalo, Niagara University, and St. Bonaventure University) in Western New York, while making the conference tournament for the first time in four years.  Canisius also excelled in the classroom as 23 of the 24 student-athletes had a GPA over 3.0 and the team had the highest GPA among female teams in the athletic department.

Walker was the head women’s soccer coach at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford during the 2016 season.  The team advanced to the conference tournament semi-finals and had five first team All-Conference selections, nine All-Conference Academic Award winners and the team earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award.  From 2002-2008 he was the head men’s soccer coach at Malone University in Canton, Ohio.  Walker helped the team transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II and grew the roster from 25 to 42 players with six of his players going on to play professionally at the highest level in the MLS, the European Champions League, and for their own national teams in Scotland, England and Mexico.

Walker has coached at the high school level, where he was the head varsity girls’ soccer coach at Hudson High School in Ohio during the 2015 season.  He led Hudson to a 15-2-2 record with a District Runner-up finish, while finishing ranked No. 7 in Ohio Division I.  Walker also was an assistant men’s soccer coach at Hiram College for two seasons.  He assisted in scouting, evaluating, training, coordinating travel and academic performance at Hiram.  Walker has club experience as he has coach with the Everest Soccer Club in Hudson, Ohio and the Western NY Flash Academy in Buffalo, New York.

Walker played collegiately at Malone, where he was a four-year starter (85-of-86 games), was a two-time all-conference and East Regional selection as well as a two-time team MVP and team captain.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Malone in 2002 and Master of Business Administration from Malone in 2009.  Walker also has a Master of Science in Management from the University of Akron.  Walker holds a Premier Diploma, Advanced National Diploma, National Goalkeeping Diploma and a National Diploma from the United Soccer Coaches.  He has also earned his National License from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and currently working on his National D License.

Walker and his wife, Molly, have a daughter Isabella (10) and three sons Trajan (8), Gabriel (6) and Maximus (3).
