(LATROBE, Pa.) – The Thomas More College women's lacrosse team opened its season today at Saint Vincent College taking on the Bearcats. The Saints fell in their season opener 20-3, moving to 0-1 on the season and 0-1 in the conference. With the win, the Bearcats improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
The Bearcats, playing in their fifth game this season, controlled the game from the start, scoring three goals in the first three minutes. Thomas More got on the board to shorten the lead to two from a goal by Jeni Hall in a man-down and free-position shot. Saint Vincent would go on to score 11 more goals before the end of the period. The Bearcats led the Saints 14-1 at the start of the second period.
The second period opened up similar to the start of the game, Saint Vincent scoring twice in the first seven minutes. Thomas More still fighting, Hall finds the back of the net again for the Saints in another man-down free position goal. Sydney Polster successfully finds the back of the net for a man-down goal scoring her first goal of the season, and the final goal of the game for the Saints. The Bearcats would go on to score four more goals, defeating the Saints 20-3.
Hall led the Saints in goals and shots on goal, recording two goals and three shots on goal. Jalee Connor tied with Hall for the team high of shots, recording three. Connor, Polster, and Hall each recorded two draw controls each. Goalie, Gillian Casey, played all 60-minutes recording nine saves.
Thomas More led the game in saves, recording nine throughout the game.
The Saints are back in action on March 31, hosting Earlham. The game will start at 1:00 pm on BB&T Field.
