(NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) - The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) announced on Wednesday (June 13, 2012) that Thomas More College's Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) has been named June's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Scholar-Athlete of the Month.
Long is a rising senior women's basketball student-athlete at Thomas More. This past season, she was named to the All-PAC First Team and the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Second Team. Long was named to the D3hoops.com Las Vegas Tournament All-Tournament Team and was selected as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Thomas More Julie Costello Memorial Tournament. During the 2011-2012 season, she received two PAC Player of the Week honors and reached the 1,000 career point plateau.
Off the court, Long is majoring in secondary education and holds a 3.94 grade point average (GPA). She is a two-time Capital One Academic All-District selection as she was named to the third team during the 2010-2011 season and the first team in 2011-2012 season and is a three-time PAC Academic Honor Roll selection. On campus, she is the Thomas More SAAC Vice-President. Long also volunteers her time with the Special Olympics, the Children's Home Festival and a John G. Carlisle Elementary. She also participated in the Check your Genes 5K; a charitable organization formed to increase awareness and improve education about the importance of family history to developing breast and ovarian cancer.
Each month, SAAC members at a PAC school nominate a student-athlete to highlight based on academic and athletic accomplishments. Honorees must be a varsity member of their respective sport(s) and must be at a junior or senior class status. Scholar-Athletes of the Month must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or highr and be actively involved on his or her campus community.
