No. 16 Saints Defeat SUNY Delhi, 8-0, in ACAA Tournament Opening Round

(ALFRED, N.Y.) – The 16th-ranked and top-seeded Thomas More University softball team defeated fourth-seeded SUNY Delhi, 8-0, in five innings today (Saturday, May 4, 2019) in the opening round of the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Tournament at Harrington Field in Alfred, New York.  Thomas More improves to 30-9 and the Broncos fall to 11-14.

  • Thomas More took a 3-0 lead in the first inning as senior left fielder Morgan Wells (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) had a two run single scoring senior pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) and senior third baseman Whitney Quillen (Dayton, Ky./Highlands) and then senior shortstop Mary Beth Odom (Taylor Mill, Ky./Dixie Heights) scored on a wild pitch.
  • In the second inning, Quillen scored on a run batted-in double by DeDreu and the DeDreu scored on a wild pitch tin extend the Saints lead to 5-0.
  • The Saints increased the lead to 6-0 in the third inning when Wells scored on a sacrifice fly by Quillen.
  • Junior catcher Kenzi Dickerson (Union, Ky./Ryle) hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to bring junior first baseman Andrea Gahan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hill) for the final score of 8-0.

  • The Saints pitching staff combined for a perfect game.
  • DeDreu earned the win as she pitched four shutout no hit innings and struck out five, while not allowing a walk.
  • Junior pitcher Kianah Towe (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) pitched a scoreless, no-hit fifth inning and struck out one, while not allowing a walk.

  • DeDreu was two-for-three with a double, a RBI and a two runs scored.
  • Wells was two-for-three with a double, two RBI and one run scored.
  • Dickerson was one-for-three with two RBI and one run scored.
  • Quillen was one-for-one with a RBI and two runs scored.
  • Gahan was one-for-three with a run scored.
  • First-year designated player Elana Harrison (Mason, Ohio/Mason) was one-for-two.

  • The Saints will play Finlandia University in the winner's bracket finals today at 3:30 p.m. at Pioneer Softball Field in Alfred, New York.
