(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced its Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III National Player of the Year Watchlist today, Monday, Feb. 11, 2019. NFCA named 50 outstanding players from the 2018 season to watch for the 2019 season. The list will be paired down in the coming months, until just one player remains at the conclusion of the season.
Among the 50 players was Thomas More softball's junior first-baseman and third-baseman Andrea Gahan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills).
Gahan, who was named Thomas More's third-ever NFCA All-American last season, played in 48 games last season making 163 appearances at the plate for a .442 batting average. She recorded 42 runs off 68 hits, which is the second most hits in a season record at Thomas More. She also recorded 14 doubles, two triples, and 16 home runs, which is the most home runs in a single season at Thomas More. Gahan is ranked second in runs-batted-in in a single season with 53. She stole 11 bases and had a .980 fielding percentage with 340 putouts in the 2018 season.
Gahan returns this season looking to continue her success on the field. The Saints begin their 2019 season on March 2, 2019 at the Pio Classic in Lexington, Ky. taking on Case Western Reserve and Transylvania.
