(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) - The NFCA announced the 360 players chosen for the 2018 NFCA Division III All-Region softball teams today, May 16. Thomas More College softball had three players named to the Central Region teams. There was a total of 29 schools to have three players selected to an All-Region team, Thomas More being one of them. Andrea Gahan was named First Team All-Region for an at-large player, Alix DeDreu was named Second Team All-Region as a utility player, and Laura Finke was named Third Team All-Region as an at-large player.
Gahan (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills), a sophomore first baseman, has played in 48 games this season making 163 appearances at the plate for a .442 batting average. She recorded 42 runs off 68 hits, which is the second most hits in a season record for Thomas More. She also recorded 14 doubles, two triples, and 16 home runs, which is the most home runs in a single season for Thomas More. Gahan is currently second in most RBI's in a season, sitting at 53. She has stolen 11 bases and has a .980 fielding percentage with 340 putouts.
DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind. / Rising Sun), a junior pitcher, is currently tied for second in most career wins at 46. She passed her old record of most wins in a single season of 19 with 23 so far this year and is first in most strikeouts in a single season with 178. DeDreu has played in 48 games this season making 160 plate appearances. She has recorded 53 hits for 34 runs, along with 11 doubles, one triple, and one home run. DeDreu has recorded 41 RBI's this season along with three stolen bases. She has a .936 fielding percentage for 43 putouts.
Finke (Fort Wright, Ky. / Notre Dame Academy), a senior center fielder, has played in 48 games, making 180 plate appearances. She has recorded 63 hits and leads the all-time most hits in a career at 206, passing the previous record of 204 set by Kim Kreimer. Out of those 63 hits, Finke has recorded 44 runs, seven doubles, and two triples. Finke has recorded 26 stolen bases and 18 RBI'sthis season. She ended the season with a .986 fielding percentage with 62 putouts.
The Saints ended their season 32-16 overall and 17-1 in the conference, PAC Champions, and reaching the first round of the NCAA Tournament Bloomington Regional.
All-Region players are nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight Division III regions. First team All-Region choices are eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America team, which will be announced the evening of May 23 online at NFCA.org and in person at the NCAA Division III Championship banquet in Oklahoma City.
