(BLOOMINGTON, Ill.) - The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Softball Committee has announced the field for the Division III Championship and Thomas More College (31-14) will travel to Bloomington, Illinois for the first round hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University (31-10-1) on Friday, May 11, in the opening round of the regional.
The regional round begins with a Friday game featuring No. 2-seed Transylvania University (32-7) against No. 3-seed DePauw University (23-20) and a game against No. 1-seed Illinois Wesleyan University and No.4-seed Thomas More College.
On Saturday, the winning teams will play at 11 a.m. with Friday's losing teams facing each other at 1:30 p.m. The two 1-1 teams will play an elimination game at 4 p.m. Saturday, and the remaining two teams will then play in the regional title on Sunday at 12 p.m.
Thomas More and Illinois Wesleyan earlier this season at the NFCA D-III leadoff classic which resulted in a 12-3 win for IWU. The No. 1-seeded IWU received the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin automatic bid into the NCAA regional.
This is the fifth year for the NCAA Division III softball postseason to feature 14 four-team regionals and two three-team regionals. The 16 winners will advance to play in Super Regionals (best two-of-three series) on May 18-19 with the Bloomington, Ill., winner meeting the winner from the Wisconsin-Whitewater regional. The eight Super Regional winners will play in the finals, hosted May 24-29 at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, Okla.
