Softball Wins Double Header Against W&J

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College softball team hosted its second round of home games this season in a PAC double-header matchup against Washington & Jefferson. The Saints were victorious in both games, winning 6-0 in the first game and 10-1 in five innings in the second game. With the wins, the Saints are now 14-12 overall and 6-0 in the PAC. With the losses, the Presidents are now 6-10 overall and 2-2 in the PAC.

In the first game, the Saints came out hot in the first inning, scoring four runs. Dallis Knotts reached on first from an error, scoring Laura Finke. Sammy Sagers grounded out to second base, advancing Andrea Gahan to third and scoring Knotts. Mary Beth Odom hit a home run scoring Gahan. The Saints added another run to their lead, scoring one in the third inning after a Gahan home run over the centerfield fence. The Saints would add one more to their lead in the sixth inning when Odom hit her second home run of the game, giving the Saints a 6-0 victory.

In the second game, the Saints started the first inning similar to the first game, scoring three runs. DeDreu singled to right field, scoring Finke. Gahan hit her second home run of the day, scoring DeDreu. The Saints kept the scoring streak going in the second inning, scoring five more runs. Knotts doubled to left field, scoring Finke and Sydney Turner. DeDreu singled and advanced to second on an error, scoring Knotts. Odom doubled, advancing Sagers to third, scoring Gahan and DeDreu. The Saints were scoreless in the third inning, but came back to life in the fourth inning, scoring two more runs. Gahan singled to center field, scoring DeDreu. Teresa Urban doubled to left field, scoring Gahan for the final score of the game for the Saints. Washington & Jefferson got on the board in the fifth inning, after a home run.

In the first game, Gahan went 2-3, scoring three runs and an RBI. Odom went 2-3, scoring two runs and three RBI's off two home runs. Finke and Gahan each had a stolen base. DeDreu was on the mound for Thomas More, facing 26 batters, allowing no runs off five hits with 10 strikeouts.

In the second game, Finke went 3-3 scoring two runs. DeDreu also went 3-3, scoring three runs and one RBI. Gahan went 3-3 with three runs and three RBI's. Hannah Sprague was on the mound for the Saints in game two, giving up only one run on four hits and one error. Sprague also recorded four strikeouts.

The Saints are back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 11, hosting Saint Vincent for another PAC double-header matchup. The first pitch will be at 3:30 pm.
