(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Thomas More College softball team snapped its five game losing streak today after defeating Chatham in both games today. The Saints defeated the Cougars 4-2 in the first game and 3-0 in the second game, going to eight innings. With the wins, the Saints are now 9-11 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Chatham falls to 2-12 overall with the two losses today.
In the first game, the Saints got on the board first, scoring one run in the third inning. Dallis Knotts singled to center, advancing Morgan Wells to second and scoring Mary Beth Odom. Thomas More kept the runs coming in the fourth inning, scoring two more taking a 3-0 lead. Odom tripled down the right-field line, scoring Kenzi Dickerson. Amanda Lloyd singled to shortstop scoring Odom. The Saints continued to score in the fifth inning as Dickerson reached second on an error, scoring Alix Dedreu. Chatham finally got on the board scoring two in the sixth for the final two runs of the game.
The second game was scoreless, taking the game into extra innings. Thomas More rallied and scored three in the top of the eighth inning. Laura Finke flew out to right field for a sacrifice fly, scoring Lloyd. DeDreu tripled to right center field, scoring Hannah Sprague. Andrea Gahan singled down the right-field line, scoring DeDreu to take a 3-0 lead. The Saints defense remained strong in the bottom of the eighth, keeping Chatham scoreless. Sprague was on the mound for the Saints in the second game, facing 27 batters only allowing four hits and no runs.
Lloyd went 2-3 in the first game, recording one RBI. Odom went 1-2, scoring two runs reaching on a triple and a walk. DeDreu went 1-3, reaching on a walk and a double.
Bree Appel and Dickerson both reached on doubles. DeDreu reached on a triple while Finke, DeDreu, and Gahan all recorded an RBI.
Thomas More returns home on April 2 hosting Anderson for a four-game homestand.
