(LEXINGTON, Ky.) – The Thomas More College softball team headed down to Lexington, Ky. tonight to take on the Pioneers of Transylvania. The Saints went 0-2 on the night, falling 7-0 in the first innings and 10-1 in the second game in five innings. With the losses, the Saints are now 7-11 while the Pioneers improved to 14-4.
In the first game, Transylvania dominated at the plate scoring in all but two innings. The Pioneers scored one in the first, two in the third, three in the fourth, and one in the sixth. Dallis Knotts led the team in hitting, going 2-3 at the plate. Sammy Sagers was the lone Saint hitting a double as she went 1-3 at the plate. Alix DeDreu was on the mound for Thomas More facing 24 batters and giving up nine hits for six runs. Hannah Sprague took over pitching two innings and facing eight batters. Sprague gave up two hits and one run.
The second game was dominated by the Pioneers as they scored all 10 runs in the second inning. The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth inning where the Saints tried to make a run. Andrea Gahan doubled to right center scoring DeDreu for the Saints only run in the game. DeDreu and Gahan both went 2-3 at the plate in game two. Gahan recorded a double and an RBI in her three at-bats. Sprague was on the mound for three innings, giving up four hits and five runs facing 18 batters. Lauren Willett took over for Sprague giving up five hits and five runs, facing eight batters.
The Saints begin PAC competition on March 31 as they travel to take on Chatham. The first game will begin at 1:00 pm.
