Monty Hopkins was named the first-ever head men's and women's swimming & diving coach at Thomas More College on in February of 2018.
Hopkins was the head coach across-the-river at the University of Cincinnati from 1989 to 2014 after swimming for the school in the 1970s. While at Cincinnati, he coached an NCAA Division I champion, as well as numerous international swimmers and Olympians. Hopkins has also coached club teams in Ohio, California, Texas, Kentucky and Arkansas and was an assistant coach at The Ohio State University and Louisiana State University before serving as the head coach at Cincinnati. He most recently served as a coach with the Cincinnati Marlins Swim Club.
“I would first like to thank President Armstrong and Athletic Director Terry Connor for the opportunity to build a new swimming & diving program at Thomas More,” said Monty Hopkins. “I’m really excited about starting from scratch and seeing where we can go from there. Getting back to college is exciting for me. Everybody knows where their strengths lie, and I think college coaching is my strength.”
“We are delighted that Coach Hopkins has accepted the head swimming & diving position at Thomas More,” stated athletic director Terry Connor. “We feel that his experience, including 25-years as a college head coach, will draw a lot of interest and excitement in the College’s new program and he will build a solid foundation for the Thomas More swimming & diving program.
Hopkins is a native of Cincinnati, where he graduated from Mariemont High School. He is married to Celeste and they have two children, Daniel and Sarah.
