Five Saints Score in Double-Figures in 108-71 Win Over Ohio-Lancaster

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) — The 23rd-ranked Thomas More University men's basketball team cruised past Ohio University-Lancaster, 108-71, on Saturday afternoon (December 7, 2019) at the Connor Convocation Center as five Saints players scored in double-figures.

  • Thomas More jumped out to an early 9-0 lead, with Keegan Saben (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) scoring seven quick points in the game's first three minutes.
  • The Cougars fought back to tie the game and kept it close until the Saints went on a 21-2 run, capped by a Tyrice Walker (Hamilton, Ohio/Summit Country Day) three-pointer with 3:16 left in the half to put Thomas More on top 46-27.
  • Ryan Batte (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) scored a jumper in the paint with 1:02 remaining to send the Saints into halftime with a 51-30 lead.
  • Thomas More outscored Ohio-Lancaster 19-2 off turnovers in the half and had a 13-0 advantage in second half points.
  • Saben led the Saints with 19 first-half points on 7-9 shooting, including 3-5 three-pointers.
  • Thomas More shot 19-31 (61.3 percent) from the field in the half, including 9-16 threes (56.3 percent).

  • The Cougars could not trim the deficit below 16 points in the second half, and a Noah Pack (Georgetown, Ohio/Georgetown) dunk off a Saben steal gave the Saints their biggest lead of the game at 40 points, 105-65, with 2:39 remaining.
  • Reid Jolly (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) led Thomas More with 16 second-half points.
  • The Saints shot 22-44 (50 percent) from the field in the second half and 10-25 from three-point range (40 percent)

  • Thomas More improved to 9-1 overall, while the Cougars dropped to 3-5.
  • Overall, the Saints shot 41-75 from the field (54.7 percent) and 19-41 from long-range (46.3 percent).
  • Thomas More outrebounded Ohio-Lancaster 46-22, and hauled in 19 offensive rebounds.
  • The Saints outscored the Cougars 30-0 on second-chance points.
  • Saben tied for the game lead with 24 points, adding eight rebounds and seven assists.
  • Jolly also scored 24 with eight rebounds, including six offensive boards.
  • Garren Bertsch (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) scored 19 points off the bench.
  • Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) finished with 19 points and six rebounds for the Saints.
  • Batte added 10 points.
  • Max Knisley (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington) finished with a game-high nine assists, adding seven rebounds.

  • The Saints will return to action next Saturday afternoon (December 14) when they will host Miami University-Middletown at 1 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
