Saints Finish 2-0 at Mount Union Classic

(ALLIANCE, Ohio) - Thomas More men's basketball went 2-0 at the Mount Union Classic this Thursday and Friday, defeating Trine, 89-73, in day two of the tournament. The Saints improved to 9-7 with the win as Trine fell to 7-4. 

  • Sophomore transfer Ryan Batte led the Saints in the first half, scoring 14 points, one assist, two steals, and three rebounds. 
  • The Saints trailed early in the first half, 9-4 with 15 minutes still to go. 
  • Garren Bertsch gave the Saints the lead connecting for a layup and a mid-range jumper to put the Saints ahead by one. 
  • There were a total of six lead changes and one tie in the remainder of the half, but the Saints went on a short run and never looked back as they went into the locker room for half-time up 46-25. 

  • Batte led the team in the second half as well as he scored 12 points, along with two rebounds and one assist. 
  • Three Saints put up eight points, Brandon Horne, Damion King, and Ryne Callahan
  • The beginning of the second half went shot-for-shot between the teams. 
  • The Saints led by as much as 26 in the half. 
  • Trine went on a short run to get back within 16 with three minutes left in the game. 
  • Thomas More held on to their lead as they ran away with the game, winning 89-73. 

  • Four Saints put up double-digits tonight, led by Batte with the game-high 26 points.
  • Batte went 9-9 from the foul line as well as grabbing five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. 
  • King finished with 18 points, along with six assists.
  • Callahan put up 13 points, recorded three rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
  • Horne finished with 13 points, along with the game-high eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. 
  • Bertsch posted nine points along with four rebounds. 
  • The Saints shot .576 from the field as well as having the advantage in rebounds (30-24), points in the paint (42-32), and bench points (30-24). 
  • The game posted two ties and seven total lead changes. 

  •  The Saints return home hosting Manchester on Dec. 31 for a 3 p.m. tip.
