(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More University football team will close out 2018 regular season on Saturday (November 10) when it travels to Collegeville, Minnesota to play fourth-ranked St. John's University. The game will kick-off at 2 p.m. Eastern/1 p.m. Central at Clemens Stadium.
THE TEAMS: Thomas More, an NCAA Division III independent, is 7-2 on the season after defeating NCAA Division II member Lake Erie College, 44-0. St. John's, a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), is 9-0 after defeating Hamline University, 51-0, last week.
THE COACHES: Trevor Stellman is in his first season as the head coach at Thomas More and has a 7-2 career record. He is no stranger to the Saints as he is a 2010 graduate of Thomas More and has been a Saint assistant coach the previous eight seasons. Gary Fasching is in his sixth season as the head coach at St. John's and has a 55-11 career record.
THOMAS MORE: The Saints are averaging 36.3 points per game this season. Thomas More has 477.3 yards per game in 2018 as it has 266.3 yards per game on the ground and 211.0 yards per game passing. Junior quarterback Justin Post is 141-of-235 passing for 1,894 yards and 19 touchdowns and also has 57 rushes for 256 yards and three touchdowns. Senior running backs Hjavier Pitts and Luke Zajac are splitting time at running back. Pitts has carried the ball 192 times for 1,269 yards and 12 touchdowns, while also pulling in 22 catches for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Zajac has 146 carries for 721 yards and seven touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Logan Winkler has 25 catches for 393 yards and four touchdowns and junior wide receiver Da'marco Canty has 22 catches for 415 yards and six touchdowns.
ST. JOHN'S: In 2018, the Johnnies are averaging 45.2 points per game. St. John's is averaging 474.3 yards per game as it has 195.3 yards per game rushing and 279.0 yards per game passing. Junior quarterback Jackson Erdmann is 139-of-214 passing for 2,183 yards and 27 touchdowns. Junior running back Kai Barber has 70 carries for 447 yards and seven touchdown. Senior running back Adam Essler has 47 carries for 305 yards and four touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Will Gillach has 45 catches for 808 yards and nine touchdowns, while junior wide receiver Andrew Van Erp has 28 catches for 463 yards and three touchdowns.
THOMAS MORE: Thomas More held its opponents to 21.0 points per game in 2018. The Saints' opponents have rushed the ball for 101.7 yards per game and 261.4 yards passing for total of 363.1 yards per game. Junior defensive back Thomas Williams has 71 tackles (45 solo/26 assisted) and has three forced fumbles. First-year linebacker Peyton Van Horn has 75 tackles (47 solo/28 assisted), including eight tackles for a loss and one and a half sacks. Junior linebacker Cody Coffey has 67 tackles (45 solo/22 assisted), including five and a half tackles for a loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Junior linebacker Adam Guard has 46 tackles (27 solo/19 assisted), including six tackles for a loss, a sack and one interception, while senior defensive back Steven Everson has 37 tackles (26 solo/11 assisted), including two tackles for a loss and a team-leading six interceptions.
ST. JOHN'S: In 2018, the Johnnies have held their opponents to 7.8 points per game and 274.8 yards of total offense. St. John's opponents average 91.0 yards per game rushing and 183.8 yards per game passing. The Johnnies' defense is led by senior safety Max Jackson with 56 tackles (32 solo/24 assisted), one interception, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. Senior defensive end Nathan Brinker has 51 tackles (17 solo/34 assisted), including 16 and a half tackles for a loss and seven sacks. Senior defensive end Ted Kalina has 47 tackles (17 solo/30 assisted), including 10 and a half for a loss and eight and a half sacks. Junior linebacker Richard Carriveau has 46 tackles (19 solo/27 assisted), including one sack and two fumble recoveries.
