(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College returns to the gridiron on Saturday (September 8) when it makes a trip to Montgomery, Alabama to play Huntingdon College at 2 p.m. Eastern/1 p.m. Central on Charles Lee Field at Samford Stadium.
THE TEAMS: Thomas More, an independent, is 2-1 on the season after rallying to defeat No. 16 University of Wisconsin-Platteville, 35-28, last week. Thomas More is receiving votes in both Division III national poll as it has 13 points in the AFCA Coaches' Poll and two points in the D3football.com Top-25. Huntingdon, a member of the USA South Athletic Conference, is 0-1 after falling to Birmingham Southern College, 41-35, on September 8. The Hawks' first game of the season was with Guilford College was declared a no-contest as it was cancelled due to weather in the fourth quarter.
THE COACHES: Trevor Stellman is in his first season as the head coach at Thomas More and has a 2-1 career record. He is no stranger to the Saints as he is a 2010 graduate of Thomas More and has been a Saint assistant coach the previous eight seasons. Mike Turk is in his 14h season as the head coach at Hungtingdon and has an 89-40 career record.
THOMAS MORE: The Saints are averaging 30.0 points per game this season. Thomas More has 428.0 yards per game in 2018 as it has 227.3 yards per game on the ground and 200.7 yards per game passing. Junior quarterback Justin Post is 48-of-86 passing for 602 yards and four touchdowns and also has 20 rushes for 64 yards. Senior running backs Hjavier Pitts and Luke Zajac are splitting time at running back. Pitts has carried the ball 61 times for 384 yards and four touchdowns, while Zajac has 50 carries for 239 yards and two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Logan Winkler is the Saints' top receiver has he has nine catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns.
HUNTINGDON: In 2018, the Hawks are averaging 35.0 points per game. Huntingdon is averaging 400.0 years per game as it has 223.0 yards per game rushing and 177.0 yards per game passing. Sophomore quarterback Michael Lambert is 11-of-34 passing for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore running back Eric Thomas has 16 carries for 158 yards and three touchdowns, while junior running back Kobe Smith has 12 carries for 38 yards. Junior wide receiver Jackson Daugherty is the top receiver has he has two catches for 61 yards.
THOMAS MORE: Thomas More held its opponents to 27.0 points per game in 2018. SERIES HISTORY: This will be the third all-time meeting between Thomas More and Huntingdon on the gridiron. Thomas More won the previous two meetings as it won 37-36 in overtime during the 2004 season in Alabama and 20-9 in Kentucky during the 2006 campaign.
