(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) – The Thomas More College volleyball team split a pair of matches today (Saturday, October 7, 2017) at the Active Ankle Invitational hosted by Washington University – St. Louis at the WU Field House in St. Louis, Missouri. The Saints fell, 3-1, to 21st-ranked Washington, but defeated Central (Iowa) College, 3-0.
With the split, the Saints are now 19-5 on the season.
In the first match of the day, the Saints fell to the ranked Bears 21-25, 27-25, 25-23 and 25-22. Sophomore outside hitter Madison Krumpelman (Crestview Hills, Ky./Holy Cross) led the offensive attack with a match-high 17 kills, while first-year outside hitter Carlee Lambert (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) added 12. Junior setter Jenna Fessler (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) paced the offense with 40 assists, while senior defensive specialist Rachel Bronner (Reading, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led the team in service aces with 40. Bronner led the team on the defensive side of the net with 18 digs, while Krumpelman added 14 and Fessler and first-year defensive specialist Jessica Ginn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) each had 10 digs.
Thomas More defeated Central by the scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-17. Lambert and sophomore middle hitter Jenna Mummert (Batavia, Ohio/Clermont Northeastern) led the team in kills with nine each, while Krumpelman finished with eight. Fessler led the team in assists with 23 and Bronner led the team in service aces with three. On the defense, Fessler had a match-high 13 digs, Bronner added 12 and Krumpelman and sophomore outside hitter Alli Borders (Florence, Ky./Boone County) finished with 10 each.
Thomas More returns to action tomorrow when it hosts Washington & Jefferson College at 1 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
