Saints Defeat Waynesburg, 9-7, to Earn Mapes First Career Win

(WAYNESBURG, Pa) – The Thomas More University women's lacrosse team gave head coach Kat Mapes her first career win as the Saints defeated Waynesburg University, 9-7, today (Saturday, March 23, 2019) at John F. Wiley Stadium in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.  The Saints improve to 1-4 and the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-6.

  • Junior midfielder Erin Carrus (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) scored goals at 22:14 in the first half and 12:09, 4:35 and 3:32 in the second half.
  • First-year attacker Katie Rice (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) tallied goals at 12:56 in the first half and 22:58 in the second half.
  • First-year midfielder Cierra Ackerson (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) scored at 9:53 in the first half and 6:17 in the second half.
  • Junior midfielder Jalee Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) scored a goal with five-seconds to play in the first half.

  • Carrus had four goals on four shots and added three ground balls.
  • Rice finished the match with 11 shots, including six shots on-goal.
  • First-year midfielder Alexa Harris (Mount Orab, Ohio/Western Brown) tallied nine ground balls.
  • First-year midfielder Kiera Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) had six ground balls.
  • Connor finished the match with five shots, including four shots on-goal and added four ground balls.
  • First-year goalkeeper Kennedy Yurt (Louisville, Ky./Mercy) earned the win in goal as she played all 60 minutes and had 14 saves.

  • Thomas More is idle until April 6 when it hosts across-the-river rival Mount St. Joseph University at 3 p.m. at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
