Softball Wins a Pair Against Wittenberg in Saturday Double-Header

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More softball team improved to 9-7 overall on the season today, defeating Wittenberg in both games, 6-2 in game one and a 12-4 come-from-behind win in six innings in game two. With the losses, Wittenberg drops to 2-12 overall. 

GAME 1

  • Alix DeDreu hit in the first run of the game, hitting a double to right center field, scoring Whitney Quillen
  • The Saints hit back-to-back doubles as Mary Beth Odom hit one up the middle, scoring DeDreu.
  • In the third inning, Morgan Wells hit a home run over the left center fence, scoring Kenzi Dickerson for a 4-0 lead. 
  • DeDreu hit her second double of the game to left center field, scoring Quillen
  • Thomas More hit another pair of back-to-back doubles, as Odom hit one to left field and advanced to third on the throw, scoring DeDreu in the process for a 6-0 lead.
  • Wittenberg scored one in the fifth inning and the sixth inning, to get its two runs of the game. 

  • DeDreu and Odom each hit two doubles for the Saints' four doubles in the game.
  • Wells hit the lone home run of the game.
  • DeDreu, Odom, and Wells each recorded two RBI's. 
  • Quillen went a perfect 4-4 at the plate and scored two runs. 
  • The Saints had the 11-6 hit advantage. 
  • DeDreu was on the mound for the Saints, throwing seven innings, striking out 1- batters and allowing only two runs. 


GAME 2

  • Wittenberg came out swinging from the opening pitch, taking a 4-0 lead in the first inning. 
  • The Saints had a huge fourth inning, starting with Andrea Gahan hit a two run home run over center field fence, scoring DeDreu.
  • Elana Harrison singled to right field, advanced to second on the throw while Wells moved to third and scored on the throw and Dickerson scored off the hit. 
  • DeDreu walked with bases loaded, advancing Quillen to second, Maddie Johnson to third, and scoring Baylee Hobeika
  • Gahan doubled up the middle, advancing DeDreu to third and scoring Johnson and Quillen.
  • Odom hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring DeDreu to take an 8-4 lead. 
  • In the fifth inning, Quillen singled to shortstop, scoring Hobeika and Lindsey Meier.
  • In the sixth inning, Adrian Marquez reached on a fielder's choice, advancing Odom to third and scoring Gahan.
  • Dickerson singled up the middle, moving Marquez to second and scoring Odom for the game winning run. 

  • Gahan and Odom each hit for doubles in the game.
  • Gahan led the team with three RBI's, while Quillen and Harrison recorded two and Marquez, Dickerson, Odom, and DeDreu each added one. 
  • Gahan and Dickerson each recorded the team-high of three hits. 
  • The Saints had the 13-6 advantage in hits in game two.
  • Hannah Sprague started on the mound for the Saints, facing 20 batters, recording two strikeouts and allowing four runs in four innings.
  • Kianah Towe replaced Sprague, facing nine batters, striking out four and allowing zero runs in two innings. 

  • The Saints host another doubleheader against Muskingum tomorrow at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
