(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More football team will open the home portion of its 2018 schedule on Saturday (September 15, 2018) when it hosts No. 16 University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
THE TEAMS: Thomas More, an independent, is 1-1 on the season after defeating traditional rival Hanover College, 27-18, last Saturday in Hanover, Indiana. UW-Platteville, a member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, is 1-0 after defeating East Texas Baptist University, 59-44, in week one.
THE COACHES: Trevor Stellman is in his first season as the head coach at Thomas More and has a 1-1 career record. He is no stranger to the Saints as he is a 2010 graduate of Thomas More and has been a Saint assistant coach the previous eight seasons. Mike Emendorfer is in his 20th season as the head coach at Wisconsin-Platteville and has a 97-95 career record.
THOMAS MORE: The Saints are averaging 27.5 points per game this season. Thomas More has 461 yards per game in 2018 as it has 238.5 yards per game on the ground and 222.5 yards per game passing. Junior quarterback Justin Post is 37-of-65 passing for 445 yards and two touchdowns and also has 12 rushes for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Senior running backs Hjavier Pitts and Luke Zajac are splitting time at running back. Pitts has carried the ball 45 times for 261 yards and three touchdowns, while Zajac has 33 carries for 174 yards and a touchdown. Junior wide receiver Mitchell Hogue is the Saints' top receiver has he has 11 catches for 118 yards, while senior wide receiver Logan Winkler has seven catches for 102 yards and on touchdown.
UW-PLATTEVILLE: In 2018, the Pioneers are averaging 59.0 points per game. UW-Platteville is averaging 567.0 years per game as it has 223.0 yards per game rushing and 344.0 yards per game passing. Sophomore quarterback Colin Schuetz is 27-of-51 passing for 344 yards and one touchdown. Senior running back Sean Studer has 16 carries for 24 yards and one touchdown to lead the Panthers' ground game, while sophomore running back Bo Babich has 17 carries for 104 yards and four touchdowns. Sophomore wide receiver Donald Allender is the top receiver has he has eight catches for 140 yards.
THOMAS MORE: Thomas More held its opponents to 26.5 points per game in 2018. The Saints' opponents have rushed the ball for 126.0 yards per game and 290.5 yards passing for total of 416.5 yards per game. First-year linebacker Peyton Van Horn has 14 tackles (eight solo/six assisted), junior defensive back Thomas Williams has 15 tackles (eight solo/seven assisted), junior linebacker Cody Coffey has 12 tackles (seven solo/five assisted) and senior defensive back Steven Everson has 12 tackles (seven solo/five assisted) and one interception.
UW-PLATTEVILLE: In 2018, the Pioneers have held their opponents to 44.0 points per game and 505.0 yards of total offense. UW-Platteville's opponents average 176.0 yards per game rushing and 329.0 yards per game passing. The Pioneers' defense is led by senior linebacker Clayton Becker with 12 tackles (six solo/six assisted), including one sack. Junior linebacker Jordan Zilbar has 10 tackles (six solo/four assisted), senior linebacker Cleveland Redd has 10 tackles (three solo/seven assisted) and junior defensive back Luke Johnson has eight tackles (seven solo/one assisted).
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
